I have had a suspicion for a very long time that Joseph Smith meant what he said, that he did not practice polygamy, contrary to LDS Histories, contrary to statements from Brigham Young and many others, after decades were passed. I am even more convinced after reading this well-researched book. LDS History may have very well been tainted by LDS Leaders and Historians, BH Roberts being one of them when he put together the Church History volumes. Joseph Smith, Hyrum Smith and Emma Smith all proclaimed against polygamy, yet no one wants to believe their own words spoken in 1844, prior to Joseph, Hyrum, and Samuel's murders? I believe their words. They were clearly against polygamy, and all that happened thereafter, I place on the shoulders of Brigham Young, Heber C. Kimball's, William Clayton and others. These men should have stood by Joseph.
